Shall I Go?

You are my rock and my fortress; therefore, for Your name’s sake, lead me and guide me.

Psalm 31:3

Think of all the places you have to go on an average day. You arise in the morning and go to the shower, then to the closet to get dressed, then to the kitchen, then to work, then to lunch, then to stores to run errands, then home . . . and those are only after you decided where to go to school, where to get married, where to live, where to work, and where to go to church.

Now—think about how many of those “wheres” you consulted God about before setting out. Where is the line in your spiritual life between those things that you don’t inquire of the Lord about and those you do? Somewhere between what to eat for breakfast and who to marry, you cross that line—and it’s probably different for every person. Think of it this way: Is anything too trivial to ask the Lord about? Perhaps the key lies in developing what Paul calls “the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16)—a combination of asking God about some things and developing wisdom from Him about most other things.

Do you live in an ongoing conversation with God about your next steps? Talk to God this week as if He were right beside you (He is) and cares about every decision you need to make (He does).
