Devoted For Life
Devoted For Life
He said to them, “Follow Me.”
Matthew 4:19
Missionary Adoniram Judson said, “The motto for every missionary, whether preacher, printer, or schoolmaster, ought to be ‘Devoted for Life.’”
Judson certainly lived by his motto, but “Devoted for Life” isn’t a slogan limited to missionaries and ministers. All Christians are called to a life of discipleship, and the decision to follow Jesus is that of being devoted totally to Him for both life and eternity.
The problem, of course, is that commitment is an abstract word. We may agree, in general, to total commitment. But does it show up on the stubs of your checkbook? In your daily planner? In the e-mails you send, the calls you make, the sins you avoid, and the witness you bear? In the way you treat your spouse?
Someone once asked, “If you were on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?” Well? Hymnist Leila Morris put it this way: “Fully surrendered, to go or to stay, just where He needs me, His will to obey.” We must commit ourselves to follow God’s leading at all times and in all circumstances.
Are you devoted for life?
If Jesus Christ be God and died for me, then no sacrifice can be too great for me to make for Him.
