Wisdom For The Race

Wisdom For The Race

Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:31

The annual review. The self-assessment. They’re ways of making sure we are clicking along smoothly in life goals. In the same way, it’s wise to self-assess the running of our race for God. From time to time, we need to evaluate how we’re doing and ask for His help. These questions will get you started:

• Am I running my race in my lane, answering the specific calling God has for me?

• Am I lacking direction, not really knowing where I’m going?

• Am I in my lane but distracted, looking around to see how others are doing?

• Have I completely stopped running, overcome by discouragement, disillusionment, and disappointment, and feeling hopeless?

• Have I become a spectator in the grandstand, watching the race when I should be running?

• Have I been sidelined by a sin and the resulting guilt and shame?

What knowledge about yourself have you gained from this evaluation? Knowing where you are—even if it isn’t where you want to be—is so important on this race. Ask God to help you to be honest with yourself, hopeful in Him, and open to wisdom about how to improve your race. Then you can soar.

Lord God, please provide me wisdom for running this race of life, and renewed strength so I can “run and not grow weary.”
