Super-hearing

Super-hearing

[Jesus] called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”

Luke 8:8

Some voices in our lives are unmistakable, like when we were kids and one of our parents called us in from playing. We knew that voice as soon as we heard it.

In the same way, when my girls were young, we could be at a playground filled with kids, noisy with laughter, talking, and, yes, crying. But if one of my daughters called for me, I was able to discern her call instantly no matter how many screaming, excited children were sharing the playground with us. When my Cattie or Sophia yelled for me, I could hone in on her voice and respond immediately. That kind of “super-sense” comes from spending time with a person—and it’s amplified by love.

We all have this ability to hear certain voices, don’t we? I remember thinking at those playgrounds, I wish I had this kind of ear for Jesus’ voice!

Throughout God’s Word, He tells us to constantly keep an ear inclined for the voice of the Spirit. Tune your ear—and heart—to hear His divine voice by spending time with Him, reading Scripture, memorizing it, praying, and worshiping. Develop your senses by sitting with God in prayer. He wants you to hear His voice even more than you do!

Lord God, I do want to hear Your voice! Help me hear Your call no matter what’s going on, and give me strength to do Your will.
