The Handoff

The Handoff

One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.

Psalm 145:4

I love watching the Olympics—especially the runners. I have run for years, and their stamina and endurance have always inspired me. One of my favorite events is the relay race, because it speaks volumes to me about our Christian race.

When the runners round the track and ready themselves to make the handoff of the baton, it’s their moment. And when the handoff goes well, the next person takes off like a shot.

That’s what our race is like—a race where we hand off truths from one generation to the next—and this is your moment. Who are you handing the baton off to each day?

Your children? Your coworkers? Your friends? Whoever is in your sphere of influence, always be ready to pass on the baton of truth. It’s the joyful culmination of all that training and running you’ve been doing!

Look for opportunities to hand off one baton of truth after another every day. Your supply of batons is unlimited! It’s exhilarating to run in good company toward the goal—eternal life with Jesus (Hebrews 12:1–2).

Lord, this is my moment. Empowered by You, I freely, effectively, and in love share Your gospel truth with those I encounter.
