Prepare For Takeoff

“I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.”

Exodus 19:4 NKJV

The flight attendant was standing in front of me, wearing a yellow safety vest and an oxygen mask. Although I had heard the safety message a trillion times, her proximity to my seat compelled me to feign attention! And it’s a good thing I tuned in. Most flights I have been on are uneventful, but on that flight, turbulence hit. And during those scary in-flight moments, I desperately recollected the safety message:

Life vest under the seat [check]

Put on oxygen mask first before assisting others [check]

Know where the exits are [check]

Place yourself in the brace position [check]

Why do I share this? Because the Christian life is like taking off on an unpredictable adventure! And though many days will be great, there will be days when turbulence hits. On those days, I want you to know instinctively how to brace yourself and get into position to weather whatever comes your way. I want your first response to be to trust in God—knowing that He is the skilled pilot who has everything under control.

So stay in your own seat, strapped in, holding steady and on course. Remain calm and full of confidence that the One who brought you this far will surely get you to your destiny.

God, I’m so excited to move forward on my journey. Thank You for Your instructions in Your Word. Please keep me mindful of them when turbulence hits.
