Leaving Behind, Moving Ahead

Leaving Behind, Moving Ahead

I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts.

Psalm 119:45

Here is the simple but profound truth: you cannot go where you are going without leaving where you have been. So ask yourself, “What must I leave behind in order to serve God with my whole life?” God is looking for runners who, like Paul, will say, “Whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ” (Philippians 3:7–8).

Imagine the freedom you will experience when you are willing to lose that garbage! Think about running unhindered as you do the work God calls you to do! Toss away the old junk from your past—and eliminate any way to get it back. Commit yourself to Jesus Christ and His cause, and step out in faith.

Do you want God to do something new in your life? Then logic tells you to stop doing the “same old thing.” Do you want God to change your circumstances? Then seek change in your life. As you walk in freedom, God will take you to new and freedom-filled places.

Lord God, I want to drop my old junk and be unhindered in my walk with You! Thank You for the freedom and newness You bring.
