Lighter Shoes, Lighter Heart

Lighter Shoes, Lighter Heart

He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him.

Psalm 40:3

The shoes that competitive sprinters wear when they train are often heavier than their race shoes. When they switch out—when they throw off those heavier shoes—they run more easily and much faster.

It’s a good strategy for runners—and for us. Are you ready to let go, are you ready to throw off—completely and once and for all—everything that weighs you down and holds you back? You don’t need to hold on to sins that you have confessed, mistakes you have made and learned from, and wounds that God is healing. Let go. Put an end to that way of living. An ending, it turns out, is the perfect place for a new start. And for a new, lighter pair of shoes.

God promises that the plans He has for you are for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). Why live weighed down by the past when His promises are propelling you into your future? Unburden yourself of all that hinders and cast it all away so you can praise God with a brand-new song and trust in Him!

Lord, please help me to let go of the weights I’ve been carrying. I want to use that freedom to praise You wholeheartedly!
