He Walks With Us

He Walks With Us

Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.

Job 42:3

Our friends, Maria and her husband, Dimitri, were stunned when Peter, their fourteen-year-old son, was diagnosed with stomach cancer. These faithful servants prayed earnestly and diligently for God to heal Peter, as did we. But Peter’s healing did not come this side of eternity.

“Where is your God now?” some mockers asked. “If He is so powerful, so good, why didn’t He heal your son?”

Why indeed?

No explanation ever will satisfy us, and our deepest questions will go unanswered. But Maria and Dimitri didn’t try to answer those difficult questions. Instead, they determined to walk down that road of disappointment and heartbreak with Jesus. They did not understand why this tragedy had occurred, but they decided to continue to trust God. They chose to keep on believing His promises and resting in His good and wise love for them. They decided to look for other heartbroken travelers on this journey of life, so they could introduce them to the Savior who would walk with them.

God didn’t give Maria and Dimitri answers, but He did give them His presence. If your heart is hurting with unanswerable questions, know that Jesus wants to walk through this with you, too, comforting you and loving you in ways beyond your understanding.

Lord, I can’t begin to understand Your ways, but thank You for Your presence with me when I am asking, “Why?”
