Fear, Trust, Repeat

I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

Psalm 34:4

If you are learning to trust God again—in spite of your fears—I’ll definitely vouch for Him. God is good and God does good because good is who God is.

As you face your fears one by one and work through them with your Father, don’t be ashamed of being afraid. Basically, the life in Christ you signed up for is a lifetime, three-step process of fear, trust, and repeat. This cycle of growth is at the heart of building unshakeable faith.

The children of Israel went through this cycle many times on their way to the promised land. In the face of terrifying odds, they had to trust that God would protect and defend them—over and over again. With each new encounter with fear, He was teaching them more faith and more trust—and so He is with us. The next time you face a fear, see it as a teacher and your gateway to more trust. If you have to forgive someone who has hurt you deeply, decide to trust that God will work in your heart. Pressing through a fear like that each time you encounter one, and choosing to obey despite that fear, is how you grow.

Jesus, help me take this cycle one step at a time, toward the goal of more fully trusting You.
