A New Course Of Healing
A New Course Of Healing
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
James 1:5
A button is pushed. A trigger is activated. And suddenly, you find yourself in emotional upheaval. But don’t worry: these moments of turmoil can be a signal that more healing is on its way.
Once, when I was hurt by a valued friend, my old shame came out of nowhere. It blindsided me and exposed some old wounds I’d thought were long healed and some shame-based toxic waste I thought I’d shipped off to Jesus. As the hurtful situation unfolded, I was tempted to conclude that I was being judged—and falling short. Still very sensitive to criticism and fearful of rejection, I wanted to withdraw.
I also began to feel I was the problem, a feeling that triggered my black-and-white thinking: I am either loved or unloved, accepted or rejected, wanted or unwanted. Nothing is ever in-between. I was tempted to make adjustments so others would feel more comfortable. My people-pleaser tendencies definitely kicked in!
It was powerful to know I could turn to God and ask Him for help—and He healed me even more as He helped me process what had happened and walked me through healthy responses.
Lord, thank You for being with me as I travel my healing journey. I look to You as it continues.
