Wonder Woman?

Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies. Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. . . . Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!”

Proverbs 31:10-12, 28-29

Wow! What a wonder woman! I used to be discouraged when I read the description of this remarkable woman in Proverbs 31. I’d think, How can I ever measure up to her? But as I’ve read it and reread it, my perspective has changed. Now I see it as an encouragement to myself and all women. The writer celebrates everything we women do inside and outside of our homes.

We provide food for our families. We set about our work energetically. We make profitable transactions. We welcome and care for the poor. The list goes on and on. In a nutshell, with God’s help, we mature to the point where all our energies fill and enrich others.

Proverbs 31 should be an encouragement to all of us, whether we’re married or not. We are all brides of Christ if we have committed our lives to Him. We can all aspire to be women of noble character.

If you are married, think of one thing you can do that would greatly enrich your husband’s life, and do it because it brings glory to God. If you are not married, enrich someone else’s life today as unto the Lord! He sees and understands your heart—and He longs to fill it to overflowing!
