Girl Hammer
Girl Hammer
The LORD will mediate between nations and will settle international disputes. They will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will no longer fight against nation, nor train for war anymore.
Isaiah 2:4
Many of us have a small kitchen drawer that serves as a catchall. In a pinch, we can find paper clips, pens, matches, the key to our neighbor’s house, or even a sticky piece of candy! This drawer is the most used one in my kitchen because it contains one of my most prized earthly treasures—a small, pink floral six-in-one hammer.
My “girl hammer” has both a standard and a Phillips head screwdriver, plus three other screwdrivers, right inside the handle. One is even tiny enough to tighten the screws in my sunglasses. I enjoy using my girl hammer regularly. I’m willing to share my hammer with my family on one condition—when they borrow my hammer, they need to put it back in the drawer or their privileges are revoked. You “don’t mess with my hammer!”
In Isaiah 2:4 we see a picture of the Lord’s future reign. The swords of war will be hammered into useful garden tools so there will be no more wars and terrorist activities. As you probably have guessed by now, I love everyday visual reminders of eternal truths. My girl hammer is a tiny tool that is as practical as it is pretty. It reminds me, as the prophet Isaiah said, that a better day is coming! Look what we have to look forward to: our Mediator, the Lord Jesus Christ, is coming back! When He reigns, nations will no longer fight with each other. His Kingdom will be governed in peace.
Next time you pick up a gardening trowel or a hammer, stop and thank Jesus that He is coming back to reign on this earth! A better day is coming—with our Prince of Peace.
