Remember When?

Remember When?

He causes us to remember his wonderful works. How gracious and merciful is our LORD!

Psalm 111:4

In Henry Blackaby’s wonderful devotional Experiencing God Day-By-Day, he says, “Spiritual memory is crucial in the Christian life.” As you and I face life head-on with its many ups and downs, it is so encouraging to remember our gracious and merciful Lord! Recalling times when He came through for us bolsters our faith to trust Him again.

When I feel small and insignificant in this big, isolated world, God reminds me from His Word that He has been caring for me all along. I love to read stories in the Bible of His faithfulness. They show that He sees all, knows all, and truly directs the paths of His people, like when He parted the Red Sea so the Israelites could escape from the Egyptians. Every time I see the word remember in the Bible, I try to mark it.

I’ll never forget His specific faithfulness to my family when we traveled south one summer to visit my relatives. We had a great time at my widowed mama’s home, along with my sister Shawn’s seven-year-old son, Elias. As the time neared to head home, the plan was to meet my sister at the halfway point to drop off Elias. But the day before we left, we decided to completely change plans and take all the cousins to see Aunt Doris and Uncle Eddie in Hickory, North Carolina, and meet Shawn there.

Mama had remarked the previous day that she was anxious to hear from my brother, Ryan, who was traveling a lot and hadn’t been able to see her very much. We all missed him on this visit.

Well, just two hours before we left for Hickory, Ryan (I call him my smart Bubba) called and said he was driving through the area. Mama told him our change in plans. “I’ll be near Hickory at about the very same time,” Ryan replied.

Only God could have organized all three siblings who live in different states to be on the interstate simultaneously. He surprised us with an extended family visit that we’ll remember always as His special faithfulness to us.

Remember God’s personal faithfulness and know He doesn’t need a GPS to find us.
