May Mother Madness Month - The One Year Sweet and Simple Moments with God Devotional

May Mother Madness Month

Be still, and know that I am God!

Psalm 46:10

I think it would be fitting during the month of May for every mother to stamp “May Mother Madness Month” across her forehead. It would possibly help explain her frazzled, stressed-out countenance to everyone she encounters!

In May, the school year draws to an end, as do Bible studies and extracurricular activities, which warrant end-of-year special events. Moms are helping their children gear up for school exams, summer weddings, graduations, piano recitals, Johnny’s and Sweet Susie’s athletic tournaments, plus other numerous activities squeezed in.

No wonder the powers that be decided to make Mother’s Day a May celebration! A special day for her is deserved more than ever this month. I feel overwhelmed handling our schedule with one child; I can only imagine how busy moms with several kids must be, trying to coordinate their whereabouts here, there, and everywhere. I get tired just thinking about it!

When I pause to catch my breath, I’m strengthened by remembering that Jesus is still in the craziness of May. He is smack-dab in the midst of every minute of every day, in every hour of every month—yesterday, today, and forever, unchanging and fully aware. “Be still, and know that I am God” is not just for May! It is for every day!

I know I can be far from nice when I am overscheduled. I know I get bossy with my family when I don’t use His good judgment in making commitments and forget to first make room for Him in my day. He gives me what I need to accomplish what He wants me to do. It’s only when I don’t use my time wisely or add tasks He never intended for me that I get grumpy and frazzled.

As sisters in Christ, we can encourage each other—not just in May Mother Madness Month, but every day—to be still with the Lord, to know He empowers us with what we need, and then to go calmly and truly carry on, armed with His kindness and strength each day!

What’s on your day’s to-do list? Take a deep breath now, then say a prayer for wisdom to use your time as God desires. Be still and know . . . then go in the power of His Holy Spirit!
