Makeover Takeover: Cheeks

If someone slaps you on one cheek, offer the other cheek also. If someone demands your coat, offer your shirt also.

Luke 6:29

A makeover takeover would not be complete without blush. When applying blush, it’s important that we turn the other cheek . . . so that it will be the same color!

Of course, we know that Jesus is not giving us a beauty tip about blush in this verse from Luke. He commands us to turn the other cheek in Luke 6:29 as part of His Sermon on the Mount.

When Jesus takes over our hearts, He asks us to do something that’s possible only with His help. He says, “Love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you” (Luke 6:27-28).

I can see some of us saying to ourselves in the mirror, “Say what? Really? Love our enemies? Lord, that is hard!” Yes, it is. But Jesus doesn’t ask us to do anything He hasn’t done for us. He loved us when we didn’t love Him, and He still shows us incredible grace and patience and forgiveness.

Not only does Jesus ask us to turn the other cheek, He says that we are to go the extra mile, too. “Give to anyone who asks; and when things are taken away from you, don’t try to get them back. Do to others as you would like them to do to you” (verses 30-31). Right in the middle of Jesus’ sermon, He mentions what we now call the Golden Rule.

Turning the other cheek is easy when it comes to makeup, but we definitely need the Holy Spirit’s power in our hearts to love our enemies. That’s when we say, “Jesus, take over!”

We share the same makeup bag in Christ! Turn the other cheek . . . without blushing. We’ll be amazed at how Jesus can work for good when we follow His example, even when it’s very difficult.
