Makeover Takeover: Lips
Makeover Takeover: Lips
My lips will praise You.
Psalm 63:3, NASB
“Lord, please take over my lips!”
Throughout each day I find myself saying that to God. Oh, if I could just conquer this area of my life once and for all, I’d never say anything regrettable. How lovely that would be!
But every day I wake up to find that I am still human, and I will continue to make mistakes and sin with my lips, even though I sincerely want lips of praise that bring glory and honor to the Lord at all times. That will happen one day in heaven.
The Bible contains quite a few references about our lips, our mouths, and our tongues. That’s because they can get us in a lot of trouble and hurt people. But no human being can tame the tongue. James 3:8-9 says, “It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God.”
I have presented this “BeautyFull Makeover Takeover” message many times to groups of women, and when I ask them what one beauty item they would not leave home without, lipstick usually wins hands down. (I have a lot of tubes of lipstick, but I am still searching for that one that really stays on for twenty-four hours. Thanks for your recommendations, Sweet Debbie and Kat!)
Each day we need to continually apply praise for God on our lips. We can be encouraged that when Jesus comes into our life by faith, He stays with us 24/7 and helps us control what we say. When we’re busy praising Him, it’s much harder for negative words to slip out of our mouths. I look forward to nonstop praise someday in God’s presence!
Pull out your lipstick and praise God! As you apply color, ask Him to apply His Spirit’s guard over your mouth as well so that only sweet words of grace are spoken.
