God’s Word Is Always In Style

God’s Word Is Always in Style

You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Deuteronomy 6:5-9

God’s Word is always fresh and never goes out of style. But did you ever think about decorating your home or wardrobe with it?

I have read today’s verses many times, but until now I hadn’t pondered the reason that Moses instructed God’s people to actually style themselves and their homes with God’s Word. They did not have their own copies of the Scriptures in their homes, much less multiple versions like we do today. The only way they could pass down God’s promises and directions was by making these important truths such a part of their daily lives that they stored them in their hearts and were able to recite them in their homes.

In the world, fashion continually changes, and society keeps adapting to keep up with the times. God’s truth never changes because it doesn’t need to! His Word is always relevant and is available to us in countless versions of the Bible as well as being accessible online. His truth will be evident in our homes and in our hearts when we practice it by faith. He doesn’t want His truth to remain closed in a book; He wants to use it by His Spirit to style us more like Him.

You and I cannot give out what we do not have. Wherever we are, we cannot talk about the Lord and what He says through Scripture unless we know what it says. God asks us to commit ourselves wholeheartedly to His Word because He is the Word.

Let’s dress for the day with His Word in our heart! Choose a verse to memorize today. How about the first sentence in today’s verses from Deuteronomy above?
