Daily Exercise

Daily Exercise

“Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,” says the LORD Almighty.

Zechariah 4:6, NIV

Because our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, I attempt to exercise regularly. But I don’t have to like it. (I have a sweet friend, Katherine, who always says, “I love to exercise!” I wish I had her enthusiasm.)

Since I’m being honest, I admit that I do not feel mighty and powerful after I attend a fitness class where we use weights; in fact, while I’m there, it reminds me how weak I am! Still, I do my best to keep at it, even though in today’s verse I’m reassured that physical exercise doesn’t need to be my primary priority in life. Exercising daily through reading and obeying God’s Word is a far more important discipline! Whenever I feel inadequate for the responsibilities God has given me, it energizes me to know that ultimately, my life happens by the power of God’s Spirit . . . not by my own might.

If something significant happens in my life, I know it didn’t result because of my puny hand but because of the powerful hand of the Lord Almighty. I long for a David heart in a Goliath world.

I desire to rally sweet Christian women across our hurting land and remind all of us that we have incredible power because we have Jesus Christ. We are His chosen ones who can offer His love to everyone He places in our path, and He provides the necessary resources. Our job is to be obedient by faith. The more we know about God’s character, the more we fall in love with Him and desire to do His will. The more we are following His path, the more of Him will be reflected, and our influence will be greater.

Zechariah 4:6 is God’s encouragement to us to live beyond the limitations of our weakness.

The pressure is off of you and me! God, through His might and power, works through us. “‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.”

What do you need strength to accomplish today? Ask God to show you in a specific way that He will handle your need in His power.
