God’s Guiding Light

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.

Unexpectedly, writing daily devotions has brought joy to my spirit because it has helped me remember God’s never-ending faithfulness. It is one simple way I can cheer for God and His Word! On the other hand, writing devotions with my heart on my sleeve seems to bring out things about myself that I do not like, might not want others to know, or are just plain silly. Yet those ordinary, everyday aspects of life are the very things that God uses to remind me about Himself.

For example, I have some pet peeves. (Don’t we all?) One day when I have time, I would like to list every one of mine just to see how many I have. Topping the list are dim lightbulbs.

My first summer out of college, five friends and I worked at the beach as waitresses in various seafood restaurants. Four of us lived together in one trailer. It was tight quarters, but since it was temporary and we were saving a lot of money for school, we managed to make it work. I clearly remember that my first purchase for our trailer was several 100-watt bulbs! I can’t live in a place with dim lighting. Forty-watt bulbs would never be found in my home. I have actually sold low-wattage bulbs at a yard sale!

One of the reasons I love God’s Word is because it acts as a bright lamp for our feet and a light for our path. Its truths are 100-watt sure, and God’s promises found in its pages never dim over time. If we need light shed on any situation, we can look to God through His Word!

Turn on God’s bright light in your life with the truths in His Word. Two good verses to plug in to your heart and mind are Psalm 139:23-24.
