God Watches Over Us

God Watches Over Us

He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. The LORD himself watches over you! The LORD stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night. The LORD keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.

Psalm 121:3-8

How many times have you and I told young children to look both ways before they cross the street? And how many times have we told a teenager in the driver’s seat to be sure to check in both directions before pulling out into an intersection?

We’d like to be able to always watch over those we love, but we have to trust that when it matters most, they will act on the wisdom they’ve been taught. Fortunately, we can trust God to be on guard over them at all times, even when we cannot be with them. Sometimes we feel even more peace knowing that He is caring for those we love than we feel knowing that He’s watching over us!

Psalm 121 is a short and sweet reminder that God is at attention in our lives 24/7, wherever we are, whatever we are doing, in and out of our households, from the mundane to the exciting, the ordinary to the extraordinary—whatever, wherever, God is watching over you and me!

If you have your Bible handy, turn to Psalm 121 and notice that in eight verses the psalmist declares six times that God helps, watches over, protects, and stands beside you and me. At the beginning of the psalm we are on the lookout for God: “I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the LORD” (verses 1-2). One of life’s most abiding comforts comes from knowing that even if we are not on the lookout moment by moment, God is always watching over us!

Join me in watching and waiting on Him daily! Thank God for His hedge of protection around you in Christ.
