He Has Your Back

Joshua conquered all these kings and their land in a single campaign, for the LORD, the God of Israel, was fighting for his people.

Most of us have heard it said on television or in a movie battle scene. One soldier says to another, “Don’t worry. I’ve got your back.” It’s a statement meant to dispel fear and boost courage in crisis or danger. Kali said this to me before I stepped off a mountain for a very high-ropes mother/daughter adventure.

How blessed the Lord’s people are that our Heavenly Commander has our backs. And just so we’ll be absolutely secure, He also goes before us into every battle. He knows the winning tactics, and He leads us through the fight, no matter how difficult the terrain or the depth of darkness we find ourselves in.

Isn’t it comforting to know that we have an invincible Father who is also our Warrior and our Protector? He always has our best interests at heart. He knows we are weak soldiers made of dust, and He even understands that sometimes in our panic or confusion we push against Him instead of leaning into Him. Even then, He still loves us. When we submit to His strategies and authority, we can march throughout life’s circumstances empowered by His Spirit in ways we may never even see to fight life’s battles.

And to top it off, He always wins. Not only is He undefeated, but He is undefeatable. No matter what, we are always on the winning side. When we take our marching orders from the true Commander in Chief and we stay on His path, follow His orders, and allow Him to fight for us, we are assured of ultimate victory. That’s a battle plan worth defending!

Let’s commit today to fight our battles with God, not against Him, leaning into Him for support. When we say, “Yes Sir, Lord” to everything, we are assured of ultimate sweet victory!
