Who Have You Been Talkin’ To?

Bible Blast: Read Exodus 34:28-35

When I began to fall in love with my husband way back when, it was amazing. I felt like I was walking on air when I was with him. When we were together, it was like we were the only ones in the room because nothing else mattered but how we felt about each other. We laughed together, and I had a goofy smile on my face most of the time. If I had recently been talking to Bob Gresh, my entire appearance changed.

Speaking with happy people we love changes how we look—unless you’re Eeyore, that sad little donkey who is a friend of Winnie the Pooh. Eeyore looked sad no matter who he hung out with. I’m not sure what his gloomy problem was. But this devo isn’t about Eeyore and Winnie the Pooh. It’s about you and God!

I hope that after you read today’s Bible Blast about Moses, you were amazed. After spending time with God, Moses’ face literally glowed. It actually gave off light! They could have stuck Moses in the corner of their tent and played board games all night long! His face shone so much that he covered it with a veil when he wasn’t meeting with God because he was afraid that the brilliant light from his face would frighten people. We’re talkin’ seriously bright! The people were weirded-out by Moses’ shining face. When he put the veil over it, they felt more secure about being with him.

There are two things I want you to take from the story of Moses’ radiant face. One is that you should spend most of your time with people who cause you to shine—people who give you life and encouragement, not yuckiness and criticism.

The second thing is that when we spend time with God, we change. We act differently, speak differently, think differently. We even look different. God’s glory begins to shine through our lives, and people wonder what makes us so different. Some people might be freaked out at first, but eventually they will see God’s love, and they’ll want to shine too.

Girl Gab: Grab a flashlight. Find a dark place in your house and see who can make the best shadow puppets, you or your mom. Keep the lights out and the flashlight on as you pray that God’s glory would shine through your lives, just like it did with Moses’ life.
