The Savior Sings a Serenade

Bible Blast: Read Psalm 63:3-8

The LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.

Back in the 1940s and 1950s, “crooners” were very popular. Crooners were men who sang slow, smooth love songs. Their voices were beautiful and could make a girl’s heart skip a beat. Some of the most famous crooners were Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, and Frank Sinatra. (Have you even heard of any of those guys?)

One hilarious picture of the power of a crooner’s song is in a Porky Pig cartoon. In the cartoon Porky owns an egg business. He has a bunch of hens, which lay eggs every day for him to pack up and sell. But then Frankie (as in Frank Sinatra) the rooster comes along and begins crooning romantic songs outside of the henhouse. Well, the hens immediately leave their nests to listen to him sing. Then, one by one, the ladies faint because they are overwhelmed by the coolness of the feathered crooner.

Porky needs his hens to lay eggs again, so he holds auditions for another singing rooster and eventually hires Bing (as in Bing Crosby). When Bing starts singing, the hens wake up and start laying eggs again. As both Frankie and Bing sing, the hens lay thousands and thousands of eggs until Porky Pig is sitting surrounded by mountains of them.

Ah, the power of a beautiful song!

The most incredible song ever sung is the one mentioned in our focus verse today. When I see the words “He will rejoice over you with joyful songs,” my heart flutters and my cheeks might even blush a little. My mighty Savior sings over me?

Yes! And he sings over you, too. God loves you completely, and that love compels him to sing over you. He’s your biggest fan.
