Don’t Stop Talking

Bible Blast: Read Deuteronomy 11:18-21

Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Write them on the doorposts of your house. Deuteronomy 11:19-20

If you have a ton of money to spend, buying a door can be like purchasing a piece of art. There’s a company in Romania that makes personalized doors out of leather and more than thirty thousand beautiful crystals. They claim to be the world’s most expensive doors. You can grab one for around $34,000! (I think I’ll just stick to my very plain, functional door, thank you very much.)

Moses had a great idea for increasing the beauty of the entrance to a house. He suggested writing God’s truth on the doorposts of the Israelites’ homes. Our family hasn’t written God’s truth on our doorposts, but we did have an artist friend of ours write Scriptures and quotes all over the walls of our basement family room. Every time we look at it, we are reminded of God’s truth.

The idea behind what Moses said in Deuteronomy 11 was that the words God speaks are important. In fact, they’re the most important words anyone will ever hear or read. Those words need to be read, talked about, and memorized. Your mom is doing Deuteronomy 11:19 with you by having these devos with you. (Go, Mom!)

One of my favorite things in the whole world is when my family talks about the Bible and what God’s doing in our lives. It doesn’t happen every day, but when it does I’m a blessed wife and mom because I’m crazy about hearing stories of God’s faithfulness and love.

God really wants us to speak his truth any chance we get, from the time we wake up until the time our sleepy heads hit the pillow. He wants you to bring up the Bible in conversation over the dinner table, on trips, or when you’re grocery shopping with your mom or dad. It may feel uncomfortable at first, but soon your family will begin to enjoy talking about something deeper than just what’s on TV.

Girl Gab: Talk to your mom about a favorite Bible verse that you have. How can you put it on the doorframe of your bedroom? Maybe you could make a cool poster and hang it where you’ll see it each morning. Ask your mom for permission.
