The Armor Of God: Shield Of Faith
The Armor of God: Shield of Faith
Bible Blast: Read Job 42:1-6
In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Ephesians 6:16
The boy was in really bad shape. He was so sick. His father really wanted Jesus to heal the boy, but his daddy’s heart was so sad that he was having a hard time believing that Jesus could actually do it. This is how the conversation went between the boy’s father and Jesus:
“Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.”
“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.”
The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”
The man admitted that he had been attacked with unbelief. Jesus loved how this man was so honest about struggling with faith. Jesus healed the boy.
The word devil means “to throw, the accuser.” That’s totally what the devil does! He’s constantly throwing lies at us and accusing us of things. They are like fiery arrows aimed at us all day long, causing us to not really believe God is who he says he is and we are who God says we are. What does Ephesians 6 say is the best defense against these “fiery arrows” the enemy throws our way? A shield of faith.
The other pieces of armor do a good job of protecting, but a shield can be moved to block the arrows from striking any part of the body. We can move that shield of faith to exactly where the enemy is attacking. So if the breastplate of righteousness is protecting our hearts, imagine how much more protected we are when we add the shield of faith to the mix! Righteousness and faith are an unbeatable team!
When you feel like you’re having lies thrown at you but you don’t have the faith to un-believe them, tell God. He understands. He knows that sometimes it’s tough. Say, “Jesus, I believe in you, but right now I need some help with my unbelief!” Then raise up your shield, because you’re protected!
Girl Gab: Mom, encourage your daughter today. Let her know areas in which her faith is growing. Daughter, you have an extra protection! Your mom’s shield of faith also helps protect you! Did you know that? If your faith is running low, ask your mom to pray for you.
