The Armor Of God: Helmet Of Salvation
The Armor of God: Helmet of Salvation
Bible Blast: Read Romans 8:5-8
Put on salvation as your helmet. Ephesians 6:17
I can’t believe it! We got to talk about belts and shoes and now hats! I know a girl named Anna who sports all sorts of cute headwear. But of all the adorable, funky hats Anna may wear, I’ve never seen her wear a helmet!
Now I’m going to ask you a really brainy question. What part of the body would a helmet protect in battle? Of course, it’s the head! It seems to me that’s a pretty important part to protect. Let’s make a list of everything your head does. (Don’t forget the parts that are on your head, like ears and eyes.) My head allows me to think, hear, see, smell, speak, eat, listen to music, nod—the list goes on and on. But the helmet of salvation is mainly there to protect what we think.
Did you know that we don’t really think very clearly about God and the Bible until we ask Jesus to be the Lord of our lives and embrace salvation? At that moment, God sends his Holy Spirit to guide us and teach us. He whispers into our ears and minds in ways that we could not even hear or understand before. It’s not that he makes us smart! He just makes us able to understand. Maybe that’s why the piece of armor that protects our thoughts is the helmet of salvation because we need salvation in order to be able to think clearly.
Do you have the helmet of salvation? Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” If you haven’t given your heart to Jesus, you can do that today—even right now! Talk to your mom about it. Then you can pray together asking God to forgive your sins. Tell your heavenly Father that you want to start totally living for him. Start spending time talking to him and reading his Word. It’s the beginning of the most exciting journey you’ll ever go on! If you have given Jesus your heart, spend some time today celebrating that with your mom.
Girl Gab: With your mom’s help and approval search for “crazy hat photos” online. You won’t believe some of the headgear people wear! I even saw one shaped like a giant jalapeño pepper! Mom, put your hands on your daughter’s head and pray for her mind today.
