The Armor Of God: Shoes Of Peace

The Armor of God: Shoes of Peace

Bible Blast: Read John 16:32-33

For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. Ephesians 6:15

Ahh, shoes.

Yesterday, my husband, Bob, wanted to do something special for me and Lexi, so he took us to this amazing shoe store in town and invited us to pick out something a little crazy. He likes to be spontaneous, and shoes are a great way to go crazy. I picked a pair of red patent leather Mary Janes. Lexi picked a pair of canvas Toms. We laughed as we talked about how we actually name our shoes—that is, “Mary Jane” and “Tom”—because we like them so much!

Remember how you read that we’re in a battle against the devil’s schemes? Well, if we’re going to battle we need the right shoes! (Probably not Mary Janes!) Can you list some things a good “battle shoe” should have or not have? I can think of a few! It should be flat so I won’t wobble when I fight. It should be secure on my foot, not like a flip-flop. I would like the shoe to cover my toes to protect them.

The Bible says that we need shoes made of the peace that comes from “the Good News.” The Good News is that God sent Jesus to die for our sins and rise again three days later so we can spend eternity in heaven with him. Knowing that Jesus has done that for us gives us great peace because we know that because of his great love for us, he’s always for us, on our side of every battle. And if God is for us, who can be against us? (see Romans 8:31)

Look at Romans 5:1. “Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.”

When we wear shoes that have the readiness of the gospel of peace, it means that we’re ready for anything because the gospel message lets us know that God is on our side. We don’t run and hide from the enemy; we’re prepared to stand and fight with God’s strength, wearing our fabulous Shoes of Peace!

Girl Gab: Mom, let your daughter try on all your shoes, even the super high heels you only wear once a year! Daughter, pick which pair of your mom’s shoes that would be the best “battle shoe.”
