Just like You

Bible Blast: Read James 5:16-18

Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years!

James 5:17

There was a time in Bungoma, Kenya, when some of the leaders of the churches didn’t think kids could minister powerfully to others. They even thought that people should wait until they are adults to accept God’s gift of salvation. But God was speaking to the other leaders and saying, “Those kids are important! I need them to do great things in Kenya!” So those leaders started working with the children and helping them grow in Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit.

As the children learned more about Jesus and his love, they started going to hospitals and other places to help others learn more about him too. One time a group of children went to a hospital, and their leader told them to obey whatever God told them to do. A boy said, “I think God wants me to sing,” so he did. When the people heard the song, God’s Spirit touched their hearts. Soon the sick people were crying and asking the children to show them the way to Jesus! That boy’s simple song was used by God to open hearts!

Seeing God use them for his purposes and his glory made the children want to do more and more for their city. They felt that God wanted them to march through the city for seven days. They began praying, telling people about Jesus, and having special meetings where the kids led worship and preached messages to everyone who came. During those seven days, the Kenyan children went to hospitals and prayed for the sick. One time more than one hundred people were healed, and they all left the hospital and went back to their homes! At another hospital, so many people were healed that the hospital had to close! It’s used as office space now.a

I love that James 5:17 says Elijah was “as human as we are.” In 1 Kings 17-19 you can read about all the miraculous things God did through him. God can do awesome things through you, too.

Girl Gab: Ask God how he wants to use you today; then obey him. Pray that he would help you and your mom to help others in the power of the Holy Spirit.
