Bible Blast: Read Psalm 139:13-16

Have you ever played Scrabble? I have some friends who are great at that game. They even know weird little words like Xi, Za, and Quag. (Those are actual words in the Scrabble Dictionary!)

Do you know who invented Scrabble? An architect named Alfred Butts created the game during the time of the Great Depression, which was a time of big money problems, when people didn’t have a lot of money to spend on extra things like board games. He made a bunch of the then-unnamed games and just sold them to neighbors and people he knew.

Alfred started working with another guy, and they renamed the game “Scrabble” since you have to dig around for the letters that you play, but it still wasn’t selling very well, and Alfred needed some cash soon. Then a guy who worked for New York’s department store, Macy’s, played Scrabble while he was on vacation and decided to sell it in the store. When that happened, Scrabble started flying off the shelves.

The thing with Scrabble and lots of other games is there’s a lot of chance involved. Yes, you employ your wits and skill to use the letters you get to make words that earn big points, but you don’t have any choice over which letters you pick up.

With God there is no such thing as luck or chance. He created you on purpose. He knew what you would look like right now even before you were born. He also knew what gifts, talents, likes, dislikes, fears, and loves you would have. When he made you, he didn’t close his eyes and randomly pick you. He knows where you’ll be ten years from now and where you’ll be fifty years from now. He created you to do specific things for him because you’re the perfect one to do them.

God doesn’t make mistakes, and he doesn’t make anything for “no reason.” You can walk around today with your head held high because you know that your Creator wants to use you for his great work!

Girl Gab: If you have Scrabble, ask your mom to play it with you sometime. It could be a little hard because your mom probably knows more words than you, but maybe you could ask her to take it easy on you! Praise God that you both were made on purpose!
