Amazing Animals: Aj And Boo Boo
Amazing Animals: AJ and Boo Boo
Bible Blast: Read Psalm 18:16-19
The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them! Psalm 16:3
A.J. and Boo Boo were best buddies, in spite of their very obvious size difference. A.J. was an older, very large golden retriever. Boo Boo was a tiny, fluffy, white Maltese. Those two dogs ran all over their farm exploring and playing together.
Living next to the farm were a couple of dogs that were sometimes kind of mean. It wasn’t a problem, though, because those dogs were fenced in and not allowed to run free.
One day, horrible sounds of yelping, growling, and barking came from the backyard. When the dogs’ owner ran out to see what was going on, she saw one of the neighbor’s dogs had gotten out. He had Boo Boo in his mouth and was shaking him hard back and forth like a little toy. The owner didn’t know what to do and began calling for help. Just then, something amazing happened.
A.J., who was very upset at what was going on, hauled her plump body over to the dog that was attacking Boo Boo. Using the only weapon she had, A.J. put her paws on the vicious dog and . . . lay down. The dog was so trapped by A.J.’s size and weight that it had no choice but to release Boo Boo from its mouth. A.J. remained on top of that dog until Boo Boo was taken to safety. Boo Boo had to go to the veterinarian and receive surgery and some stitches, but he was fine once he healed up.
Boo Boo’s best friend saved his life that day. It seemed as if the two dogs had a closer bond than ever after that experience. It was almost as if Boo Boo was telling all the other animals on the farm, “A.J.’s my hero! A.J.’s my hero!”
It might be easy to define a hero as someone who risks everything to help another, like A.J. did for Boo Boo. That’s definitely an awesome thing, but our heroes need to be more than that. Our heroes should be men and women who love God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. True heroes inspire us to be more like Christ.
