But I’m So Tired!

But I’m So Tired!

Bible Blast: Read Proverbs 6:6-11

Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise! Proverbs 6:6

The Brooklyn Tabernacle is a huge church located in the heart of Brooklyn, New York. It’s the home of the famous Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, which is made up of 250 people and has recorded many albums. If you ever get the chance to visit New York City, try to visit. It’s an amazing place to worship God.

But as big and as beautiful as the Brooklyn Tabernacle is, it certainly wasn’t easy to establish or to keep it running. The church, which began in 1847, was destroyed by a fire in 1869. They rebuilt the church in 1873, and that building was destroyed by a terrible thunderstorm in 1889. So they built again. This new building could seat 6,000 people, but sometimes they crowded 7,000 people into it. You may not believe this, but that building was burned by a fire in 1894! The Brooklyn Tabernacle went through a few more changes until it finally landed where it is today, in a theater on Smith Street.

It’s easy to give up, isn’t it? Some things are really easy to do and work right away. Other projects are very difficult, and we have to keep on trying and trying and trying. I bet the people who started Brooklyn Tabernacle were discouraged when the first church building was destroyed. But can you imagine how they must have felt when it happened two more times? Probably some of them wanted just to give up, but those who believed in the project kept pushing and building and praying to make the church what it is today.

When you believe in something and it feels as if it’s constantly getting “burned down,” ask God for perseverance. Perseverance means you don’t give up even when things get tough, just like the people of the Brooklyn Tabernacle.

When God asks you to do something, it won’t always be an easy, quick task. There will be times when you really have to work to obey God, but the end result will be glorious.

Girl Gab: Get a stack of some sort of playing cards. Have a contest with your mom to see who can build the tallest house of cards. See if you can build it to three stories high! As you build the card houses, talk about times when you’ve wanted to give up. Was there ever a time when you persevered and were amazed by the results?
