Boy Trouble
Boy Trouble
Bible Blast: Read 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. 1 Corinthians 9:26 (NIV)
Macy and Genevieve were great friends. They did everything together and almost never fought until one day when Macy ran up to Genevieve and said, “I totally have a crush on that new boy, Adam! He’s so cute!”
Genevieve said, “You can’t have a crush on Adam because I totally like him, and I’m pretty sure he likes me back! You’ll have to find someone else to have a crush on.”
Macy’s face fell. “He doesn’t like you, Genny! Kiersten told me she thinks that Adam said I’m cute. Why don’t you start liking Chris instead? He’s cool.”
“Because I like Adam, Macy! How could this be happening? What are we going to do?” Genevieve pouted.
“I know,” Macy said. “Let’s have a contest and see who can get Adam to like her by the end of the week. Deal?”
“Deal!” Genevieve said with a huff.
The two friends did everything they could to get Adam’s attention all week. They wore cute things in their hair. They laughed at everything Adam said. They even tried playing football with him when the class went outside.
By Friday, they weren’t sure what Adam felt until they saw him pass a note with a big heart on it to Kiersten during class. The girls slumped down in their chairs and looked over at each other.
On the bus after school, Macy said, “I guess that contest thing was pretty dumb, huh?”
“It sure was,” Genevieve agreed. “We almost let a boy get in the way of our friendship. Let’s never do that again!”
Macy had an idea. “Let’s promise not to let each other get boy crazy. I don’t want to worry about boys all the time.”
Genevieve liked that. “Yeah! If you start to think a boy is more important than anything else, I’ll let you know.”
“And I’ll do the same for you, Genny!”
The girls made a “pinky promise” and talked about how Adam wasn’t that cute anyway.
Girl Gab: Have you ever seen two girls end their friendship because of a boy? Worrying about boys all the time doesn’t do anything good for you. It’s like running all around without knowing where you’re going. Be crazy about Jesus, and he will show you where to go!
