Big Hair

Big Hair

Bible Blast: Read Isaiah 30:18-21

I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. Romans 7:19

I bet if I asked who your favorite singer was you wouldn’t jump up and down and say, “Crystal Gayle! I love Crystal Gayle!” Crystal Gayle is one of the most famous country music stars of all time. She has a really clear, pretty voice, but if you saw her, what you’d probably notice first—and find amazing!—is her hair. Crystal’s shiny brown hair is so long that if she were barefoot, her hair would touch the floor! It’s more than five feet long! She often wears it down and brushed, not up in braids or in some kind of bun.

Crystal has had a lot of hit songs since 1970, and one of them was called “Wrong Road Again.” It was a song about how she was going to go down the wrong road, even though she knew it was bad. It sounds like a boy problem to me. Maybe she had a boyfriend who wasn’t good for her. Maybe he wasn’t kind to her, or maybe he ignored her when she was around her friends. Even though he treated her selfishly, she still wanted to be with him so she just kept being his girlfriend.

I see girls of all ages do that all the time. Something like thirty percent of eleven-year-old girls have boyfriends! For crying out loud! They just want a boyfriend so badly they don’t really care if he’s even nice to them. Even though the girl knows that boy is dragging her down and making her feel bad, she keeps going down that “wrong road again.”

If a boy doesn’t really care for you, why would you want to be called his girlfriend? You’re probably not allowed to go on dates now, but start praying now that God would keep you from falling for boys who don’t love Jesus and don’t treat you with care or kindness.
