What People Really Notice

Bible Blast: Read Acts 4:8-13

The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.

Acts 4:13

You have to go to school. You may be able to get out of it a few days a year, but for the most part, it’s something you have to do. I hope you have a lot of school days that you enjoy. Learning new things can be awesome.

Even though school is very important, there are some famous people who never went to college. Some of them never finished high school! Andrew Jackson didn’t go to college, but he was the sixth president of the United States! Steven Spielberg directed or produced major movies like Transformers and E.T., and he was actually rejected from film school!

When Peter and John stood in front of the council (leaders) who were upset with them for preaching about Jesus, the council leaders were amazed. Those two disciples were just normal guys who had never been through any official training or study of the Scriptures. But the council could tell that Peter and John had been with Jesus.

Isn’t that the most important thing? Isn’t that what people should notice about Christians more than anything else? Shouldn’t others know that we’ve been with Jesus?

If you become a rich movie star who’s known all around the world, none of that will matter at all if people don’t know that you love Jesus more than anything.

If someday you have the honor of being a stay-at-home mom and you raise your children to be amazing inventors and your house is the cleanest house on the block and you lead Bible studies and prayer groups, none of that means anything if people don’t see you as someone who’s been with Jesus.

Being with Jesus and loving him is number one. Spend time getting to know him. Let him teach you about Scripture. Follow him wherever he leads. You can have the highest honor of being recognized as “someone who’s been with Jesus.”
