Bible Blast: Read John 14:1-6
In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. John 14:2 (NIV)
Do you want to eat dinner in the bathroom tonight?
Well, maybe not! But there is actually a restaurant in Jakarta, Indonesia, where you could enjoy a gourmet dinner in a bathroom. The restaurant is called The Apartment, and the designer of it wanted to create an atmosphere that was really different where diners could feel very comfortable. The Apartment has several rooms to choose from, such as the kitchen, library, bedroom, and, of course, the bathroom. Your waiter takes you to the room of your choice, and you’re led into a beautifully decorated room that looks just like something you would find in a really nice apartment or home. In the bedroom, you could eat while sitting on a bed. In the bathroom, you’ll find a large bathtub and showerhead.
God has created a place with lots of cool rooms too. In fact, most people would say it’s “heavenly”! Before Jesus was betrayed and crucified, he encouraged his disciples by letting them know there’s a place in heaven reserved for them. He described it as a house with many rooms. Then he told them he was going there to prepare a place for them. And here’s the best part: Jesus made sure the disciples knew that, when they went to heaven, they would be with him forever.
The disciples loved Jesus very much, and he loved them even more. They had walked together, talked together, and experienced so many incredible things together. The thought of losing Jesus must have been horrible for his friends. When they saw him on the cross in such agony, maybe those words he had spoken in verse 3, “I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am,” brought them comfort.
Isn’t that the coolest thing ever to know Jesus is preparing a place for those who love him in heaven? Wow!
I don’t know what the rooms in our heavenly Father’s house look like. I’m not sure if there will be a pantry, kitchen, or bathroom. But I do know that once we’re there, we won’t ever want to be anywhere else.
Girl Gab: Make plans to eat dinner in a room other than the dining room sometime this week. If your family’s really adventurous, try the bathroom or the garage! While you eat, talk about what you think your room will look like in heaven.
