Righteousness
How can I pursue and practice righteousness?
God’s Response
Run from all these evil things, and follow what is right and good. Pursue a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. 1 Timothy 6:11
Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it is because they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. 1 John 3:7
“Lord, when did we ever see you hungry . . . or thirsty . . . or a stranger . . . sick or in prison?” And the King will tell them, “I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!” Matthew 25:37-40
Pursuing and practicing righteousness is a three-part process. First, you have to run from evil, that is, turn your back on anything that is wrong, deceitful, and immoral. Then you have to run after that which is good and right, such as faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. Finally, you have to put your righteousness into practice by helping those in need. The pursuit and practice of righteousness is proactive, not just idle theory.
God’s Promise
Whoever pursues godliness and unfailing love will find life, godliness, and honor. Proverbs 21:21
