God’s Response

This is the secret: Christ lives in you, and this is your assurance that you will share in his glory. . . . I work very hard at this, as I depend on Christ’s mighty power that works within me. Colossians 1:27, 29

A final word: Be strong with the Lord’s mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies and tricks of the Devil. For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:10-12

It is not enough to merely imitate Christ by trying through your own efforts to do right and seek God’s will. Instead, you are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, and his power works through you. You thus equip yourself for battle against Satan and his evil army. You will need to work hard and use all of God’s power in you to stand firm, but the Holy Spirit’s power is much greater than Satan’s, and you can win the battle.

The Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. 1 John 4:4
