How should I deal with people who have hurt me?

God’s Response

Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?”“No!” Jesus replied, “seventy times seven!” Matthew 18:21-22

Since God chose you to be the holy people whom he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. You must make allowance for each other’s faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Colossians 3:12-13

When God forgives you, he wipes away the past and remembers it no more, so you should not remember it either. Forgiveness deletes the sin file from the hard drive. The only thing that is within your control in dealing with people who have hurt you is to ask God to help you to forgive. Forgiveness releases the bitterness from your soul and begins to heal the hurt. You must remember that your sin has deeply hurt God, yet he forgives you and is ready to restore his relationship with you. You must follow his example or be doomed to live with a bitter spirit.

When you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too. Mark 11:25
