Comparisons

Comparisons

What are the dangers of comparing myself with others?

God’s Response

This was their song: “Saul has killed his thousands, and David his ten thousands!” This made Saul very angry. 1 Samuel 18:7-8

We want to be like the nations around us. 1 Samuel 8:20

The proud Pharisee stood by himself and prayed this prayer: “I thank you, God, that I am not a sinner like everyone else, especially like that tax collector over there!” Luke 18:11

When you compare yourself to others, you take your eyes off of Jesus, which will cause you problems. You may want what others have, and become jealous and discontented. You may want to be what others are, and miss God’s plan for who he wants you to be. You might end up thinking that you are better than someone else, and become arrogant. You might want to do what others are doing, and be led into sin. A better plan is just to keep your eyes on Jesus, the perfect standard of comparison.

God’s Challenge

Examine yourselves to see if your faith is really genuine. Test yourselves. 2 Corinthians 13:5
