Burnout

Burnout

What should I do if I’m experiencing burnout?

God’s Response

When David and his men were in the thick of battle, David became weak and exhausted. 2 Samuel 21:15

I am exhausted and completely crushed. My groans come from an anguished heart. Psalm 38:8

When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he said, “Why are you trying to do all this alone? . . . You’re going to wear yourself out —and the people, too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself.” Exodus 18:14, 18

You may be experiencing burnout if you become unusually weak and exhausted in the middle of doing your work, or if you feel constantly overwhelmed. Sometimes you feel burnt out at the end of a project or a great personal victory. When you are stretched in every direction for too long a time, you lose focus and can’t do anything well. You can reach this point quickly during the holidays, when you try to make Christmas look like everything that tradition says it should! To enjoy the spirit of Christmas, you will need to pause. Adequate sleep, good nourishment, and asking for help will refresh you so you can truly enjoy the season.

God’s Promise

He gives power to those who are tired and worn out; he offers strength to the weak. Isaiah 40:29
