When Bad Things Happen

When Bad Things Happen

If God really loves people, why do such bad things happen in the world?

God’s Response

I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. Isaiah 43:1-2

The world is full of suffering—you see it every time you turn on the TV. If God is so loving and so powerful, why do these things happen? Why doesn’t he stop them? The answer is that he will. God promises a world like that—we call it heaven, but the Bible calls it the new earth, restored to be the way that God originally created it. In the meantime, we must deal with the evil that exists, trusting that God is able to bring good out of the bad things in the world.

This Is Promising

I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” Revelation 21:3-4
