What Is Truth?
What Is Truth?
Everyone says that truth is whatever each person thinks it is. How can I know what is really the truth?
God’s Response
Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.”“What is truth?” Pilate asked. John 18:37-38
Like Pilate, many people today—and probably many of your friends—think that truth is whatever they want it to be, but when there is no standard for truth, there is no standard for right and wrong. A society can determine that abuse, deceit, and stealing are acceptable behaviors. There has to be an objective standard that all people everywhere are always meant to follow. Even our own consciences tell us that there is such a standard. The Bible says that truth exists in the person and character of God. He didn’t just create truth; he is truth, so only truth can come from him. All of our choices have both immediate and future consequences. Read the Bible and check out the consequences of living by God’s standards as compared to living by your own definition of truth. Then ask yourself which way is right.
This Is Promising
You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32
