Homosexuality

Homosexuality

Several people I know at school say they’re gay. What does God say about that?

God’s Response

Do not practice homosexuality . . . it is a detestable sin. Leviticus 18:22

Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved. Romans 1:26-27

People often say that God isn’t against homosexuality. They claim that the words in the Bible are “cultural” and that God didn’t mean for them to apply to today’s world. But when God speaks against something in both the Old and New Testaments, you can be sure that his words are not merely cultural. God sees homosexuality as a sin. Different people have different weaknesses. Some have trouble with gambling, lust, lying, or homosexuality. You can’t help it if you have a desire to sin in a specific way; but you can help acting on that desire. The standard is the same for all of us—God calls us to sexual purity, whether our desire is for the opposite sex or not.

This Is Promising

The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. 1 Corinthians 10:13
