The Cross
The Cross
Why did Jesus have to die on the cross in order to save us?
God’s Response
Now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. Colossians 1:22
The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
The cross can be either a barrier or a bridge to God. The Bible calls it a stumbling block and foolishness to those who don’t “get it” (1 Corinthians 1:23). The Bible says that every person since the beginning of time has sinned, and that sin is rebellion against God. God is holy—perfect—and cannot live eternally alongside sin. That’s not his idea of a perfect world. Sin has to go if you want to live with God forever, so either you separate yourself and your sin from God, or God takes your sin away so you can be perfect in his eyes. God chose to have his Son, Jesus, take your punishment so you wouldn’t have to. Accept his gift of taking away your punishment so you can live forever with him. This is the greatest gift ever offered—don’t refuse it!
This Is Promising
Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever. 1 Thessalonians 5:10
