What does Jesus’ death mean for me?

God’s Response

He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed. 1 Peter 2:24

He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. Colossians 2:14

If there were no consequences for driving through red lights, breaking into people’s homes, or killing people, anarchy would reign. The things people value most—peace, order, security—would be gone. Sin is breaking the laws that the Creator of the universe set up to bring peace, order, and security to our world. Breaking God’s laws brings God’s punishment just as breaking government laws brings civil punishment. The good news is this: When Jesus died on the cross, he took the punishment for sin that we deserve. Sin no longer controls us now, and one day we will be rid of sin forever.

This Is Promising

God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. This includes you who were once far away from God. Colossians 1:19-21
