Temptation

Temptation

Is it sinful when I’m tempted to do bad things?

God’s Response

Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry.During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ” Matthew 4:1-4

[Jesus] faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. Hebrews 4:15

It is not a sin to be tempted—Jesus was tempted and he never sinned. Since he faced temptation without giving in to it, he is able to understand and help you when you are tempted. Temptation is unavoidable—what you do when you are tempted is what makes the difference. When you are tempted, do what Jesus did and be ready to respond with the truth of Scripture. Knowing what God thinks is right will help you to resist sin and overcome temptation.

This Is Promising

Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested. Hebrews 2:18
