Old Testament

The Old Testament has some confusing and gory stuff in it; it’s hard to relate to sometimes. What is the value in reading it?

God’s Response

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 2 Timothy 3:16

[Jesus said,] “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.” Matthew 5:17

As you read through the Old Testament, you do indeed come across some very strange stories, but some current news stories are equally bizarre and disturbing. One of the great things about the Bible is that it deals with real people in real situations, and this can often be messy. The Old Testament explains how sin came into the world, what the results of sin are, and how God set in motion a plan to deal with sin. The Old Testament points to Christ as the Savior that we need. It is an important and essential part of God’s story that applies to you.

This Is Promising

I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. Matthew 5:18
