Determination

Determination

How can I continue to get something out of my daily reading of the Bible?

God’s Response

Ezra was a scribe who was well versed in the Law of Moses, which the LORD, the God of Israel, had given to the people of Israel. . . . The gracious hand of his God was on him. This was because Ezra had determined to study and obey the Law of the LORD and to teach those decrees and regulations to the people of Israel. Ezra 7:6, 9-10

The truth is that you will have ups and downs when it comes to reading the Bible. Some days you will feel as if every word is spoken right to you and other days you will feel that you just aren’t getting anything. The key is to be consistent and faithful. Ezra knew the Scriptures because he was determined to study, obey, and teach them. As you read God’s Word every day, consider what you need to do as a result of what you’ve read. What change needs to happen for you to be more obedient? Determine to act on what you’ve learned and consider how God might use you to teach or share what you are learning with others. Knowing you may have to teach or lead by example can really motivate you to learn!
