What is the right attitude toward money?
God’s Response
Jesus felt genuine love for him. “There is still one thing you haven’t done,” he told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” At this the man’s face fell, and he went away very sad, for he had many possessions. Mark 10:21-22
When Jesus asked this man to sell everything, it was a test to see what his heart truly loved. This doesn’t mean that all believers should sell everything they have. Instead, the point of this story is for you not to allow your money or possessions to become more important to you than Jesus is. He expects you to be responsible about providing for your needs without allowing money to become the central focus of your life. Don’t start thinking about how much or how little you have compared with others—this only sets you up for pride or jealousy. Learn to live contentedly within your means while sharing generously with others.
This Is Promising
Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. 1 Timothy 6:6-7
